Creating a new form
  • I'm currently creating a new open hand routine but my creativity just isn't there! I've done quater of my routine and am happy with that but anything I add onto it I end up changing because i'm not happy with it. I have a competition coming up and starting to get a bit worried!

Can anyone suggest anything to help?

(I don't trick as of yet so my form is purely kicking and hand techniques)

  • What I do to get some ideas for my forms is, I look on youtube and see what some other martial artists do and it gives me some ideas. I don't trick yet ethier so I just watch the hand and foot techniques. I hope this Idea works for you.

    Can I have some advise.
  • What i do is copy the hyper pros forms and other naska martial artist. but i dont just copy one of theires, i put alot of forms together. Once i learn the combo form i start making progressive changes because it is not so fair to completly copy forms, also i use my hand combos from their dvds and change them somewhat. but i would advise choosing a song before umake ur form so it can go well together. :)

What I do so that my forms are consistant, is I will keep my old form and change the kick combos, and hand combos by mixing up the hands and recreating what I already had. Then you will end up with a new form and you will be able to do it with ease! Good Luck!

Yes, absolutely. I coach my teams creative forms very simply. Dont change the structure just change the elements. When you first create a form copy what you like from others and put it together like a puzzle. practice it until it becomes 2nd nature, by that time your own skill and personality will start pushing through and the changes will come to you without stressing yourself out. and when you want to change it later, only do so in small doses. Don't re-invent your entire form. OH! and break it down into sections, that way you can add or take away elements from a section without disrupting the entire flow.
