Is it possible to learn tricking and XMA by myself?
  • FrozenFrozen April 2010
Hey everyone, I was just wondering if it was possible. I just found out about tricking and XMA and I really would like to learn how to do it. I'm not sure where to learn it though as there are no places near me that teach it so I was wondering if I could learn it myself, is it possible?

    Frozen,

Its a good question, but it all depends on how you do it.
Tricking, like any Martial Art requires commitment, willpower and of course the drive to excell in it. There are many people around the world that Trick, flaunting themselves across youtube as well. Take that into consideration for a good start. Look up what people do, and how they do it. Learn by starting with the basics such as Stretching. It cannot be stressed enough how important a core for your body is, build endurance, stamina and of course strength. Push your body to its maximum potential and then, push harder and furthur. It'll be tough and very painful, but overtime you will see much improvement. Work on basic kicks, establish balance and technique. So to answer your Question, Yes. It is possible, but quite hard. If you don't mind a challange, then by all means, go for it. Best of luck to you.

What exercises should I do? I can practice kicks but I'm not sure about the ones where you do back flips and all, I've tried and i can't seem to bring myself to flip on my side as I can't jump high enough.

99% of trickers are self taught.

Ok i agree with VSTricks because i sprained my back by trying to do a butterfly twist because i forgot to stretch lol but other than that it is possible to teach ur self but u need a lot of will power aka me and a lot of other people! =)
  • well i would say that whatever you do, listen to your body and be careful it's not how many hours you train a day it's how good you train it's not worth causing serious injuries, since you don't have an instructor to teach whats right or wrong just start slowly and build it up everything slowly you don't wanna get injured and then not be able to practice for a few weeks or sometimes months. just when ur body tells you to stop don't push yourself harder. there is a difference between pushing hard and going overboard and u have to be the judge for urself. iv'e trained in a few styles of martial arts although im not a tricker i did a few traditional styles for quite a few years ( still practicing) and i did in the beginning injure myself and it's not worth it. another thing when you practice something even just a block or a punch practice slowly and get the form right and as u get comfortable with the move u can speed it up. (especially with your kicks) u can get used to mistakes and it could be years of practice in the garbage it's a pity to see people that r doing tricking or any traditional martial art for yrs and they r so sloppy they don't have the basics right and no power and believe me there r. remember there is nothing wrong with being a beginner nothing to be ashamed of not being able to do those stuff so pls i know from experience don't try to rush it just go with ur body. soak in the journey and enjoy every minute of it it's worth. so just practice smart and u'll get there sooner or later. if you have any questions on working out and on martial arts just ask ,maybe i'll be able to help, i would be glad to. iv'e had really great instructors and i still have, and i learned allot of what the essence of martial arts is so i would love to share what i learnt.

im just saying what iv'e learned from my experience
good luck on your journey :)
