Hi Everyone!

Hope everyone is doing well. I have been training hard and experimenting with new tricks and combos. I like this time of year because I can spend more time trying out new tricks and combos. They don’t always work out but the process is fun and can lead to some new and interesting ways to combine your tricks.

2011 was a good year. I started off the beginning of the year with a broken bone in my foot but once I fully healed things got better.  Some of my big tricking highlights for 2011 were my double corks, cheat 9 hyper hooks, C1080′s, and being able to do my fulls now on both sides. Here is a small sampler I put together of some of my 2011 tricks. I hope you enjoy it!! Till next time, keep training hard core!!!

Tricking is a beautiful sport but unlike most other sports it has no season, no real winners or losers. It is really an art as much as it is a sport. It is about the evolution of the tricker, the journey itself, the expression of emotions that can be felt when we trick or watch someone else trick. We see this all the time at any gathering, no matter how competitive the battle, we are one community, supporting, cheering, celebrating, inspiring, encouraging…

Tricking should not be judged. It would be like trying to judge art or music, we just know when it moves us. Trickers should not be split into groups or classes. We are ONE and It doesn’t matter who you are, where you are from, or which gender you are… If you are a tricker then you just get all this. It is the essence of our community, part of the beauty of being a tricker.

I feel very lucky to have discovered this sport. I was born into acrobatics, starting structured gymnastics at a very early age. But there was something missing. I loved the freedom that came from flying through the air but gymnastics is governed by nothing but rules and judges. Tricking offered another avenue that allowed me to still do all that but without all those restrictions. It allowed me to express myself in whatever way I chose at that moment. I got to make tricking my own – no rules, no limits. Nobody was there telling me what to do or how to do it. It also meant I would need to learn on my own.

But I never really was alone in that regard because of all the great trickers that laid the groundwork before me. Anis Cheurfa, Danny Graham, Jeremy Marinas, Sesshomaru… just to name a few. I never realized how accepting and willing even the top names in this sport would be to help each other, offer advice, teach, inspire and help spread this sport. There is no other sport where you can say that. I have tremendous respect for all these trickers. Everyone who has helped me along the way to where I am today. It inspires me to do the same and I will. Just another reason why tricking is so awesome and why I love being a tricker!

Tricking is not something I do. Tricking has done something to me. It is the very fabric of what I am and who I will always be.

Hi Everyone,

It has been several months since I have posted anything to the blog.  I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of setting goals and following through with them.

I set a goal in 2010 of landing a double cork.  I had my single cork down really well and was able to do boxcutters, double fulls out of a cartwheel and double fulls out of a round-off.  It was time to push my abilities and apply my double twists to my corkscrew.  My very first weekend I attempted double cork I landed 3 but they were terrible and were probably cheated in some way.  I didn’t film them since I didn’t expect to land them at all.  Unfortunately After that initial weekend I was no longer able to land them anymore.  I added them to my list of tricks to practice and I kept trying to improve them each and every time.  Pretty soon I was able to land them fully rotated and then fully rotated and on my feet.  By late 2010 I had landed it but not without briefly putting one hand down.

It would have been easy to stop there or back off but I didn’t.  In December of 2010 I technically landed my first double cork but again my hand only barely missed touching the floor and it was off balance.  I wanted to land it completely solid and I really wanted to land it with others at a large gathering.

In January 2011 I had a setback due to a fractured foot.  I didn’t know it was fractured at first but knew something was wrong with it. After getting my walking boot off I just taped it up and continued to compete and trick but I was not able to really practice my double cork until a couple months later.

Finally at Loopkicks Camp 2011 it all came together and I landed what I considered a clean double cork.  The feeling after months and months of practice is indescribable!!  The icing on the cake was doing it in front of my friends and some of the most respected trickers in the world. (Check out the Video Here)

Sometimes when a goal takes a long time to accomplish it is difficult to see the daily progress.  We have to break our goals down into smaller goals and take each step as a victory on our way to our ultimate goal.  This is not an easy thing to always do but sometimes it is the only way.  Keep dreaming and pushing your abilities and setting your goals and whatever you do… “NEVER GIVE UP!”

Hi Everyone,

It has been a long time since I have updated my blog. I have been injured the past couple months with a fractured foot. It is almost fully healed and I can’t wait to get back to training and tricking at full strength!

I wanted to post a video my dad made me. It shows me over the past few years and my progression. I think this video is a great example of how hard work, great coaching, and lots of persistence and dedication can help you accomplish your goals. Check out the training videos and tutorials on this site as they are a great starting point on your own journey. I hope you enjoy the video and it is a source of inspiration in your own training. Till next time, keep training hard core!!!

Hi Everyone,

Been busy with my first year of high school, practicing karate, and tricking.  This week I am posting one of my first competition videos taken at a small local tournament from 2005.  The reason I am posting this is to point out the level I started out at when I first started competing.  Even us Hyper Pros had to start at the bottom and work hard and practice thousands of hours to reach the point where we are now.  It is easy to view our videos and performances and think that we were always like this.  With hard work, dedication, and proper training you can reach any goal you put your mind to.  Once the Hyper Website becomes fully functional I encourage you to view the online lessons and competition forms we have put together for you.  I have posted below one of my first tournaments and underneath of that I have posted one of my last.  I hope this is an inspiration for everyone to train hard and practice, practice, practice!!!  Hope you enjoy the videos and talk to you again soon!

Hi Everyone,

The summer is almost over for me and I have been crazy busy!!!  It all started in Las Vegas with the Martial Arts SuperShow and then directly to Orlando for the US Open and ISKA Night of Champions.  Then I travelled to Connecticut for over two full weeks of training camp and tricking with Team 100 Percent and then directly to Maryland for the 2010 Capital Classics!!!  I have not been home in a month!  I had such an amazing time out in Connecticut training with my other teammates and friends!  Working with a group of friends and pushing and supporting one another is an amazing experience.  There is really no substitute for this kind of training so if at all possible get out there with a group of people and support and push each other!!!  Going to leave you with my musical form from Capital Classics.  Hope you enjoy it!  Until next time, keep training hard core!!!

Hey Everyone,

Back from the 2010 Martial Arts Super Show in Las Vegas Nevada and the US Open in Orlando Florida.  I had an awesome time with everyone at the Super Show and we put on a great show.  The US Open was amazing as well.  I was selected to perform in the ISKA Night of Champions for the third straight year and I went out there and did my best.  I am now off to Connecticut for two weeks with my teammates at 100 Percent.  We are already getting a lot done and having a ton of fun too.  Just wanted to leave you with a little tease of tricks I am working on perfecting.  I am continuing to work hardcore and hope everyone else is too.  Talk to everyone again soon!!!YouTube Preview Image

Hey Everyone,

Time for my weekly blog.  Hope everyone is enjoying their summer :)  I have a very busy stretch coming up.  I am heading off to Las Vegas this weekend and then to the US Open in Florida where I will be teaching a seminar/privates and also competing.  Then it is off to some tricking camps and then more tournaments.  I wanted to change the topic up this week and talk about training.  There has already been quite a bit of talk about karate training and how practice is very important.  But in addition to specific karate practice, cross training and just general fitness and diet is very important to bring out your best.  I regularly condition and stretch but I have also added plyometrics and weight training to the mix to make myself stronger.  Here is just a short clip of part of my conditioning.  If anyone has any specific questions on training or general fitness just post them to the forum and I will do my best to answer them.  Hope you enjoy the video clip and talk to you all again in a few weeks!

Hey Everyone!

Just thought I would take a minute to post a video from this past weekend’s AKA Grand Nationals Team Tricking Battle.  I was lucky enough to be invited to trick as part of Team High Five with Michael Guthrie, Dan Pitlock, and David Armstrong.  We battled Team AKA in the night show and there were some CRAZY tricks being thrown.  I feel honored to get the chance to trick with some of my tricking idols.  It was the highlight of my weekend!  Hope you enjoy the video!!!

Hey Everyone,

Here it is the night before I depart for AKA Grand Nationals in Kentucky and I thought I would update my Hyper blog!  This year is flying by and I have been keeping really busy tricking, dancing, and competing.  I graduated 8th grade last week with a 4.0 GPA!  My grades are very important to me even with all the extra activities I do!  I have been working on my double cork and swinging thru on a lot of my other tricks.  I have TR swing-thru cork swing-thru gainer and a lot of super cool new combos.  I was really looking forward to the illReality tricking battle at New England Open but I just ran out of time and I was not able to compete.  I plan on doing the tricking battle at AKA and showing some of my newer tricks and combos.  I have done 6 NASKA tournaments so far for 2010 and I have won 11 Grand Championships!  Hope everyone is getting ready for a great summer :)  Keep training hardcore and talk to everyone again soon!!!

Hey Everyone!
In this week’s blog I wanted to discuss a little about Hyper and what we as Hyper Pros represent.  There seems to be a lot of confusion about what we are and why we exist.  I hear a lot of people calling us a competition team or a tricking team.  We have even generated challenges from others thinking we are a true team.  Although all the individuals who represent Hyper currently compete and also trick on some level,  Hyper is neither a competition team nor a tricking team.  We are a group of individuals who have been selected by Hyper Martial Arts to represent and to progress the martial arts and its lifestyle.  We are looking to raise awareness of the martial arts through our website, clothing line and training videos.  I hope that answers at least some of the questions I have been seeing.  My next tournament is Gator Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida.  I love this tournament and its location.  The hotel is right on the beach and there is a sling shot ride that is awesome.  I went on it a bunch of times last year.  I have been training really hard and am excited for Gator Nationals.  Hope to see everyone there!!!

Well it is 7:00am Thursday morning and I am getting ready for  a busy weekend.  We had state testing this week at school so I am going to go to school today and then catch a red eye flight tonight for Quebec Canada.  Hope there are no delays!  I will miss testing on Friday but will make it up next Monday.  Some new stuff that is going on with me is that I have taken a break from competitive gymnastics this year to focus more on karate and also dance.  I auditioned and was selected to be part of the Capital Roots Dance Crew where I will be doing tricking, hip-hop, breaking, popping, locking, turfing…  I am pretty excited to get more time for both karate and dance.  I have been working hard on my forms and have a couple new things to unleash so hope to see everyone in Quebec!  Keep training hardcore and see you back here soon.

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to post a quick update on my blog…  Been busy with school and training for Amerikick.  I have been working on perfecting my forms and bringing some more of my new tricks I practiced in the off season into my forms.  Things are going really well but just really, really busy.  I am also planning on competing in the Amerikick tricks battle and have been working hard on new tricks and combos for that as well.  I really hope there at least 6 girls so they will have a 17 & Under girls division.  If you are a girl and like to trick then I highly encourage you to come out and compete!  It is a blast so hope to see everyone there!!!
