Hyper Q&A: Mackensi Emory Talks Holidays & Training

What’s your favorite holiday pass time? Going holiday shopping and spending time with my family.

How has martial arts influenced your holiday break? I get to spend more time doing what I love… martial arts training and tricking!

Do you practice during the holiday break? Do you do anything different? Yes I do practice over the break. I actually get to spend more time training because I don’t have any school to worry about. This time of year I am usually perfecting my new forms and tricks for the 2011 season.

Is it hard to keep training during the break? Not really because I look forward to that extra practice time. I don’t mind because I know it will just make me stronger and better. Without schoolwork, I get to put all my focus and energy on my training.

What’s the best present you’ve ever received for the holidays? Just having time off and being able to spend time with my family.

What are you wishing you will get this year? Honestly, the presents don’t matter. I am very lucky and already have everything I need. I really just want my family to stay healthy and to have a great year in 2011!

Have you ever done anything to help others during the holidays? Yes. I have done “Toys for Tots”, “The Giving Tree”, “Cans for Kids”, worked at “The Harvest Food Bank” and participated in “Santa’s Helpers” for my school. It feels great to be able to give back to other kids and families less fortunate than me and make their days better during the Holidays.

Hyper Pro Holiday Q & A: Marc Canonizado Talks Holidays & Training

What’s your favorite holiday past time? My favorite thing is putting up Christmas lights around the house and tree. It just really sets the mood for the holiday season

Do you practice during the holiday break? Do you do anything different? Most of the time, I do some sort of vacation with friends and family. As far as my usual practice, it does slow down just a little bit. But, I do still condition and occasionally run for burning off all the food I eat, haha.

Is it hard to keep practicing during the holidays? I’m usually ready to just relax but I know that work never stops so neither should I. I do as much as I can before the holidays and when it gets to Christmas & New Year time, I relax.

What’s the most memorable present you’ve ever received for the holidays? I’d have to say it was a Power Ranger action figure as a kid! It was when I was about 10 years old and they were a HUGE hit! That Christmas was going to be the first time they had an action figure and myself and the other millions of kids in America wanted one of those toys. It was all over the news that they were sold out everywhere and that they were extremely hard to find. Luckily, my mom beat the rush and got mine on the first day.

Have you ever done anything to help others during the holidays? My dojo donates holiday food to the shelters. It’s a wonderful thing to do and I highly recommend it! It really makes a huge difference in others lives.

Hyper Pro Holiday Q & A : Austin Crain Talks Holidays & Training

What’s your favorite holiday past time? Since I have time out of school, I get more opportunities to train, hang out with my friends and trick at the gym. As well as just spend time with my family (especially my grandparents in North Carolina).

How has martial arts influenced your holiday break? Since I train more during the holidays, I really can’t say I get much of a break, but I enjoy it, so I guess it feels like a holiday.  Having breaks out of school also gives me opportunities to travel and train with my other teammates.

Do you do anything different in your training routine? I especially work on my forms and tricking over break. Nothing really different, just more intensive.

Is it hard to keep practicing during the break? It’s always hard to train during a holiday season, but I enjoy training and tricking, so it never feels like work. Plus the hard work pays off for the next competition year.

What’s the best present you’ve ever received for the holidays? I love the macbook I got one year, even though I did have to pay for part of it.  I also earned my 2nd degree black belt in December of 2008, which was a great present (even though it really wasn’t a gift).

What are you wishing you’ll get this year? I have so many things in life, so I really don’t have a specific need or material wish, but I was hoping to go to California to train!

Have you ever done anything to help others during the holidays? We usually hold a holiday fundraiser for a needy family in the community or for a special non-profit organization.  Last year, we raised money with a kick-a-thon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Hyper Q&A: Caitlin Dechelle Talks Holidays & Training

What’s your favorite holiday past time? Favorite past time would probably be buying our Christmas tree on Thanksgiving and decorating it! That has always been something that we have enjoyed as a family!!

Do you practice during the holiday break? Yes, I try to as much as possible. If we go on a vacation, I will at least try to condition or do something. Going a while without exercising can affect your body!

Do you do anything different? If I’m away from home, then yes (explained above) but if I am home then of course it’s the same routine which includes running forms, conditioning, etc.

Is it hard to keep practicing during the holidays? Sometimes. During the holidays I like to spend time with my family and sometimes just take a break!

What’s the best/ most memorable present you’ve ever received for the holidays? This year’s gift was amazing, I got a new Sony A55 camera. It has some of the latest technology and takes amazing pictures! Thanks to my wonderful family for getting me that!

What are you wishing you’ll get this year? Well since I already got my Christmas gift early, I’m just looking forward to having an amazing Christmas and New Year with my family!

Have you ever done anything to help others during the holidays? After Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, we would go and take our leftover food to homeless shelters to provide them with a nice holiday dinner!
